A year ago I decided to throw my hat in the ring for the Journey Award with Chanticleer Book Reviews. The international contest attracts thousands of authors from around the globe, making the competition more fierce each year. When I made it through to the slush pile in round one I was ecstatic. Later in the year I reached the finalist level which I considered a HUGE win. That's when I decided to attend the annual conference where I would learn more about the amazing world of writing and cheer on the winners at the award banquet. Of course I was hopeful, but I tried to stay realistic and not count on anything. When my name was called among the five who won FIRST IN CATEGORY out of eighteen finalists, I screamed! I'm a blue ribbon winner! WOW. WOW. WOW. I did not win the grand prize, but that is okay... this is an epic win and I'm honored to be recognized alongside so much talent.
